misery however kind, if the conscience of the child or servant convicts of sin. Heb. X the sacrafices [sic] would have ceased because here would have been no more conscience of sin. I would desire to speak of the effect of the opperation [sic] of the spirit of God in what it produced in the heart &c. Let me suppose a child uncertain whether the Father loves it seeking to ascertain what is passing in his own heart, in order to discover the heart of the Father. Now it is quite true there is a real work in the heart of every Xtian. But the revelation is a clear character of God’s heart given of himself . allowed that there is a different experience between what passes in the heart of a believer & unbeliever. The gospel begins at the close of God’s experience of Man’s heart, whether left alone before the flood or put in
