I am reminded of some other comments on national character:

“the Scotch mind is inclined to be material and hard - and this does not make a promising soil for heavenly truth.” (FER, Letters, pg. 97)

“The brethren are simpler, but the habits of the country are exceedingly distressing, no morals, constant swearing; in the East (perhaps less in the West), drunkenness, no family life, at least in the towns; that is America.” (JND, Letters Supplement from French, vol. 2, pg. 69)

“The tendency of Americans is to keep changing their locality, in order to take on a farm, to find work, etc. It does not occur to them to belong to a place.” (JND, Letters Supplement from French, vol. 2, pg. 189)

Somewhere JND describes the Canadian character, but I can’t seem to track it down at the moment.

Rodger opened the door a little …. on national character.

Perhaps with prophecy in mind, but not being prophetic, William Kelly was insightful in his commentary on Joel on some nations.

“As for Germans, their love and hate are serious, their very thoughts having not only wings but hands. When the Germans have their revolution, it will be grave for all mankind, — coldly calm in conception, passionate in execution. They struggle not for the human rights of nations, but for the divine rights of humanity!”

“If I might venture to give an opinion (and I never think of giving one's own thought as more than that), it is that the United States of America will be swamped into a political marsh; and as they have been hitherto a mere omnium gatherum or conglomerate from the rest of the world, especially from Europe, comprising no doubt a vast deal of skill, industry, and enterprise, but also not a little of the scum and refuse of all nations; so I believe they will break up into factions of noisy primitive elements; and, after going off in boastful vapouring, will at length burst as a bubble …… For it is a remarkable fact that there is no place in prophecy for a vast influential power, such as the American United States would naturally be, if it so long retained its cohesion.”

Other nations are also mentioned by Kelly.
